Mario joined the Local 5 team in January 2017 as Assignment Editor before shifting into the role of Digital Executive Producer in January 2018. He was promoted to Director of Digital Content in August 2022.
Mario graduated in 2015 from Drake University in Des Moines with a B.A. in Journalism and Mass Communication. There, he served on student-produced broadcasts of the Drake Relays, and worked at the school’s radio station. Mario also worked part-time at the Des Moines Register as a news clerk in the sports department.
As Digital Executive Producer, Mario works to deliver news in a quick and accurate manner, as well as edit content for delivery online and through social media. Mario also works reporting crime and courts through accessing public documents and following cases from beginning to end.
