DES MOINES, Iowa — We're still over a week away from the official first day of fall, but the sights of the season are already sneaking their way into central Iowa.

Everything's coming up apples! Bring your whole family along to celebrate apple harvest season at Living History Farms. While you're there, learn how people used apples throughout history, purchase apple treats and more.

Celebrate the start of a new season with fellow community members. This fall festival will feature community displays, games, drawings and more. Plus, the Local 5 Weather Team is forecasting sunny skies and low 80s on Saturday, the perfect weather for an outdoor event like this one!

Illumifest, billed as "a fall festival of light", is an event with something for everyone. Grab a bite to eat from one of the various food vendors, then check out any combination of free activities, including games, paper lantern painting, face painting, bingo and more.
Plus, watch performances by the Des Moines Breakerz and Cirque Wonderland, or take a free hot air balloon ride.
