DES MOINES, Iowa — Get ready to shake off the rainy day blues and get a taste of real spring weather this weekend. Whether you're celebrating Easter or just looking for a fun weekend activity, there are plenty of ways to get out and about in the Des Moines metro.

Local 5 has rounded up five events happening in and around Des Moines this weekend, so hop to it!

Mixology Night: Planetary Prom

  • Where: Science Center of Iowa (401 W Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway, Des Moines)
  • When: Friday, March 29, 6-9 p.m.
  • Price: $20

Space enthusiasts and cocktail creators will unite at this out-of-this-world event. Don your most dazzling, prom-inspired attire (bonus points if it has a celestial twist!) and get ready to enjoy handcrafted cocktails. Attendees will also get to explore interactive exhibits and activities, including live shows in the Star Theater Planetarium and a space-like virtual reality experience.

Iowa Wolves vs. Austin Spurs game

  • Where: Wells Fargo Arena (730 3rd Street, Des Moines)
  • When: Friday, March 29 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, March 30 at 7 p.m.
  • Price: Tickets start at $21

March Madness is in full swing, but there are also plenty of other local teams who deserve their time in the spotlight. The Iowa Wolves will face the Austin Spurs two nights this weekend. Friday night is Women's History Night, which will include a jersey auction benefiting Girl Scouts of Central Iowa. The next night is Fan Appreciation Night, featuring postgame team autographs and a team trading card set for the first 1,500 fans. 

Maple Syrup Day

  • Where: Iowa Arboretum & Gardens (1875 Peach Ave., Madrid)
  • When: Saturday, March 30, 8-11 a.m.
  • Price: $9 for adults, $6 for kids ages 5-10

Iowa State University's forestry honor society, Xi Signma Pi, is sponsoring this all-you-can-eat breakfast. Enjoy pancakes, fruit, coffee and of course, real maple syrup. In addition, attendees can partake in tree-related activities including a maple tapping demonstration, a live wood-turning display and arts and crafts.

Trans Lives Festival

  • Where: First Unitarian Church of Des Moines (1800 Bell Ave., Des Moines)
  • When: Saturday, March 30, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Price: Free

Honor International Transgender Day of Visibility with this free, all ages event. The festival will showcase the work of transgender, genderqueer, nonbinary and gender-nonconforming people from around Iowa. Find arts and crafts, food trucks, live music, poetry, drag and comedy performances and more.

Doggy Easter Egg Hunt

  • Where: Paws & Pints (6218 Willowmere Dr., Des Moines)
  • When: Sunday, March 31, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
    • Egg hunt at 12 p.m.

Who says egg hunts are just for kids? Bring your furry friend to Paws & Pints to hunt for eggs filled with surprises, including the chance to win a lifetime Paws & Pints membership. Dog owners can enjoy brunch, a backyard stroll with their pup and of course, Easter-themed photo opportunities galore.
