Did you know Chinchillas can't get wet? And no, it's not because they're gremlins in disguise. Chinchillas are native to the mountains of Chile, where it's cold but dry. Instead of taking a bath in water, chinchillas do something that might seem counterproductive. They roll in dirt to keep their fur clean!

Nani the Curious Chinchilla from Blank Park Zoo couldn't wait to do just that, giving viewers a firsthand look at her beauty routine. But, while Nani may look like the perfect cuddle companion, chinchillas aren't great pets. They're exotic animals with exotic needs.

"You'd imagine there aren't very many chinchilla dentists around," shares Tegan Roberts, Family Program Specialist from Blank Park Zoo.

Luckily, you can stop by the zoo to see Nani instead, even in the winter months. The giraffes, Aldabra tortoise, and penguins also have indoor enclosures. You may even spot the lions hanging out on their heated rock!

Registration is open for the Spring and Summer Safaris at Blank Park Zoo. The safaris are day camps that offer children the chance to learn through hands-on activities, and to explore the zoo. The theme for this year's Spring Safari is zoo clues.
