IOWA, USA — Tense moments for a law enforcement officer on an interstate in Iowa over the weekend.
The Iowa DOT posted on social media of damage to one of its motor vehicle enforcement vehicles this week. It happened on I-29 near the Iowa/Missouri border.
They said the officer walked away from this car with only minor injuries.
Sgt. Blake Wittrock with the Iowa DOT said in the preliminary investigation, distracted driving may have been a positive factor in the crash.
Sgt. Wittrock also highlighted the difference between motor vehicle enforcement and the Iowa State Patrol.
"Iowa State Patrol operates under the Department of Public Safety," he said. "And their focus is all traffic goes on throughout the state.
"Our focus within the Department of Transportation is commercial motor vehicles."
