Free clothing program TAKE says they have helped more than 20,000 people so far this year

A program in Ankeny is helping provide access to free clothing and now they are asking for the community's help.

ANKENY, Iowa — 'Tis the season for giving, and taking.

Over at The Ankeny Clothing Exchange — TAKE — is a nonprofit organization providing free and gently used clothing for families in need.  You can go and shop Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.

They are also open every second Friday of the month, and the best part is everything is free. TAKE President Jerry Linde explains the guidelines for shoppers.

"We do have some limits, we just ask that they only shop once a week, and then we give them three plastic grocery bags to shop with, they can fill those up with the things that they need," Linde told Local 5.

TAKE is asking for donations to the clothing exchange to keep the giving going, and are also asking for the community's support to fund their new location on E 1st Street.

"We're trying to raise $300,000 by the end of the year, we're not quite halfway there yet," Lind said. "So, we're reaching out to the public to let them know what we do and ask for their help,."

Last year the organization says they helped more than 23,000 people and this year they have already exceeded that number. You can drop off donations at their current location at 718 NE Grant St in Ankeny.
