Dexfield Diner and Pub opens up pop up diner over 5 months after devastating fire

Just one block away, the diner is serving its signature dishes and more as it works to rebuild and continue serving food throughout the state.

REDFIELD, Iowa — Just over five months ago, a local diner in Redfield, Iowa was faced with a fire that destroyed the building.

Now, the diner is finding ways to keep driving forward.

Steve Roberts, the owner of the Dexfield Diner and Pub, is moving about the kitchen once again to serve up specials. Now, the kitchen is able to move with him.

"Wherever they want us, were gonna just kind of travel to them," Roberts said.

Ever since customers heard it is serving diner food again, Roberts already has a full list of places to bring the trailer to. He is reflecting now on what it means to have this trailer open.

"Just the interaction with the community again and all our guests," Roberts said. "I had a lady that drove out here all the way from Des Moines the other day just to get one of our tenderloins."

The diner on wheels currently rests down the street from the diner under construction.

The building is currently making progress. It has had the roofs repaired, the structure is done and the windows will be coming soon. Meanwhile, community support continues to roll in through social media and the business at the trailer.

"It's been awesome, it's been great," Roberts said. "I'm glad we have the trailer to go to the people now that helped us out, so I can chase them instead of them chasing me."

The diner on wheels is filling up Roberts' cup as he gets to continue living out his dream of serving food to the community.

"It's a lot, but it's very exciting," Roberts said. "It just shows you all the support and people really do love the Dexfield Diner Food."
