WAUKEE, Iowa — Waukee Area Christian Services has started its annual fundraiser to finance its food pantry, clothing closet and medical clinic for the year ahead.
The sixth-annual fundraiser began on Monday, April 1, and runs through Thursday, April 25, the same day as its "after-party" celebration.
According to Van Leeuwen, money from the raffle, canned food sculpture test and more go mostly toward purchasing food and clothing for the community.
"Our goal is to raise $100,000 for all of our services. So it's a big number, but we are trusting just that God will provide and we have a wonderful supportive community who's very giving and gracious, so a big goal this year," said Heather Van Leeuwen, a client advocate for the organization.
Van Leeuwen told Local 5 they have reached around 25% of that goal already.
For those unable to make a monetary donation, the organization is always accepting donations to its locations.
"We accept all types of food donations. We also have fridge and freezer space. So if you've got eggs or milk or meat to donate, we've got that as well," Van Leeuwen said. "We have a clothing closet for kids here on site. So we love to get those clothing donations, anywhere from size four up through adult extra large."
