ADEL, Iowa — The state of Iowa's annual Veterans Day observance brought people together from across the state to the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel.
Veterans and their families were joined by Iowans wishing to show their support.
U.S. Army Command Sgt. Maj. Rick Lamb, a Des Moines native, delivered the keynote address.
"Thank you for your service, your sacrifice... and I guess the challenge for us, the survivors, is that we have to accurately educate subsequent generations," Lamb said.
Gov. Kim Reynolds was also in attendance, proclaiming Monday as Veterans Day throughout the Hawkeye State and calling upon the people of Iowa to honor our nation's heroes.
"To the many veterans who are with us today, as well as all of those still serving, thank you for putting service over self so that everyday we can enjoy our liberties and peace and prosperity," Reynolds said.
Later in the day, the Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs hosted another ceremony at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Iowa National Guard Command Sgt. Maj. Steve Hyde, a Cedar Falls native, spoke at the event.
Both ceremonies were livestreamed and can be watched on the Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs Facebook page.
