GRINNELL, Iowa — A window and door manufacturer in Grinnell will be laying off more than 150 workers early next month.
JELD-WEN announced Wednesday that 152 workers from its windows plant will be laid off on Nov. 7, according to a notice on Iowa's Worker Adjustment and Restraining Notification (WARN) website.
Founded in 1960, the North Carolina-based company has 18,000 employees with sales of $4.3 billion and operates throughout North America and Europe, according to the company's website.
A spokesperson for JELD-WEN released a statement in regards to the layoffs, writing:
"While these decisions are difficult, we are taking steps to simplify and strengthen the company, and meet future demand against current labor force, which includes optimizing our operations network to better compete in the market we serve. We value the contributions of our employees and have provided those affected with a competitive separation package and outplacement services to help provide a smooth transition. Affected employees can also apply for any other open roles in Grinnell locations and across the company. While decisions that impact people are never easy, we make them only after careful consideration and with the understanding that our actions today are necessary to position JELD-WEN for long-term success."
