IOWA, USA — Maximus, Inc. plans to lay off 34 employees in the state, according to Iowa's Worker Adjustment and Restraining Notification (WARN) website.

The company, which is headquartered in Virginia, was contracted to support member services for Iowa Medicaid and HAWK-I for nearly 20 years.

However, with a new contract beginning on Jan. 1, Maximus will no longer operate the contact center for these services. As such, the employees who worked on this program will be laid off as of Tuesday, Dec. 31.

"Impacted staff were made aware of this possibility due to the contract ending," a spokesperson for Maximus, Inc. said in an email to Local 5. "They have been encouraged to consider other opportunities at Maximus and engage with the company’s career resources. They also can apply for any open roles with the successor contractor if they choose."

Maximus will still maintain a presence in Iowa. The company will continue to perform assessments on Iowans entering nursing home facilities through its contract with the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services.
