Casey's set to expand into the Lone Star State

You may think it’s just another convenience store, but Casey’s also claims it's the fifth-largest pizza chain in the U.S.

TEXAS, USA — A Midwest staple is coming to the Lone Star State!

Casey’s General Stores, Inc., which claims to be the third largest convenience retailer in the United States, announced that it plans to purchase 22 convenience stores in Texas and open some Casey's in their place.

The deal is closing over the next few weeks and should be complete by the end of November, a rep with the company confirms to WFAA.

Beyond convenience store offerings, Casey’s also claims to be the fifth-largest pizza chain in the U.S.

It’s especially known for its breakfast pizzas and homemade dough.

The move to Texas is also set to bring hundreds of jobs to the state, a rep with the company said.

"These stores will serve as a springboard into the great state of Texas for Casey’s, while still located within our self-distribution network," said Casey’s President and CEO Darren Rebelez in a statement. "We look forward to continuing to serve these communities, welcoming our new team members to the Casey's family, and bringing our delicious pizza to North Texas soon."

Casey’s General Stores Inc. opened its first general store in Boone, Iowa in 1968.

Texas is the 17th state the retailer has expanded to in the years since.
