Nevada Facebook group does its part to help the community through the pandemic

The Nevada, Iowa STRONG Facebook page is a great way for local businesses to stay connected and reach customers in the community.

NEVADA, Iowa — A community Facebook group in Nevada has become the go-to place for businesses in the area trying to get through the pandemic.

Marc and Amber Olsen started the Nevada, Iowa STRONG page as a way for Nevada businesses to post their hours, services, menus and specific COVID-19 guidelines in order to get the information out to as many people as possible.

"I had somebody approach me the other day and tell me that they actually went to go visit a new nail salon that we have here in town, because I had shared their post from their business page," Amber said "And that made me so happy because that is exactly what the group is here for."

Paula Feltner, owner of Bricktown Bakery, is one of the many businesses owners the Olsen family has helped through their page.

"It has been pretty overwhelming to see the community coming in and one by one they just thank us," Feltner said. "Just to see people excited again about being together a little bit even though we have social distancing in here."

Amber created a spreadsheet that lays out all of the businesses information and can be accessed through the Facebook page. In addition, businesses have also started posting employment opportunities to the group.

Marc and Amber thank city leaders in Nevada, the police and fire departments, Nevada Jaycees as well as the Nevada school district.
