Businesses busy with repairs following protests

Some businesses owners along Court Avenue said their claims have been denied due to the circumstances.

While demonstrations in Des Moines following the killing of George Floyd remained mostly peaceful, some businesses along Court Ave incurred property damage from a handful of protesters.

Some of the restaurants in downtown Des Moines had just reopened at the end of May, and are now cleaning up damage.

John Fletcher and Tom Zmolek with the Historic Court District Association set up a page to help out businesses trying to get back on their feet.

According to the page, some business owners' damage claims have been denied due to the circumstances.

Money raised will go directly to the association.
