Fong's Pizza location in Drake Neighborhood shuts down suddenly

A note on the restaurant's door thanks customers for their support over the years, saying, "We have been honored to be a part of your neighborhood."

DES MOINES, Iowa — A staple Des Moines pizzeria has suddenly shut its doors.

On Tuesday, the Forest Avenue Fong's Pizza location posted a sign on its door saying the restaurant has closed for good. Its last day of business was Saturday.

The sign reads:

Dear Drake Neighborhood Friends,

We regret to say that after 2 1/2 years of trying to make things work here, we have decided to close our doors for good, effective Saturday 11/13/2021.

Thank you very much for your patronage and support over the years. We have been honored to be a part of your neighborhood.

The Fong's on Forest Team

That location opened in April 2019. There are three other Fong's Pizzas in the state in downtown Des Moines, Ankeny and Cedar Rapids.

Local 5 reached out to Fong's and the owner of the building, but has yet to hear back on why the business shut down.
