Des Moines bar closed for the second time during pandemic

Phil Troge, owner of the Waveland Tap, says he is losing around $1,000 per day because of the bar's closure.

The impact of Gov. Kim Reynolds' closure of bars and taverns in six Iowa counties is still hitting hard.

Phil Troge with Waveland Tap in Des Moines says since closing for the second time during the pandemic, they're losing around $1,000 a day.

"That's really the hard part is you set yourself up to to conduct business again and then you're done," Troge said. "I'm not sure if we're going to be allowed to open September 20."

The bar has been able to receive PPP business funding to pay his small staff, but Troge told Local 5 that money has run out.
