IOWA, USA — 6,320 initial unemployment claims were filed last week in Iowa, an increase of 200 (3.27%) from the previous week.
5,760 initial claims for the week of Feb. 7-13 were by people who work and live in Iowa, and 560 were by individuals who work in Iowa but live outside the state.
"For the week ending Feb. 13, 2021, nearly 68.8% of claimants indicated their claims were not COVID-19 related, which is an increase from 67.5% the previous week," Iowa Workforce Development said in a release.
861,000 Americans applied for unemployment last week, up from 793,000 the week before.
$16,388.535.64 in unemployment insurance benefits were paid out in the state last week, a weekly decrease of $207,867.08 (1.25%).
Continuing claims for the week were 47,614 a decrease of 414 (0.86%) from the previous week.
IWD said the following industries had the most claims:

- Industry Not Available - Self-employed, Independent Contractors, etc (804)
- Manufacturing (803)
- Retail Trade (380)
- Administrative, Support, Waste Management, and Remediation Services (338)
Additional data released for last week:
- $18,991,500 in Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC) benefits paid, which include retroactive payments and reauthorized payments that went into effect on Dec. 27, 2020. Since April 4, 2020, a total of $1,706,707,633 in FPUC benefits has been paid.
- $4,565,691 was paid in Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) benefits. Since April 13, 2020, a total of $202,182,050.54 in PUA benefits has been paid.
- $2,816,263.18 in Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC) benefits paid. Since May 27, 2020, a total of $209,141,042.74 in PEUC benefits have been paid.
