DES MOINES, Iowa — Iowans are feeling the financial burden during the coronavirus pandemic, especially when it comes to paying bills.
This financial stress can occur in a variety of contexts, but paying rent or a mortgage is a month-to-month expense that can be particularly difficult to handle at this time.
Local 5 spoke with Eric Kool, the Director of Polk County Community, Family, and Youth Services. Kool also works with the Financial Empowerment Center.
Kool talks about various ways that central Iowa residents can get financial assistance or advice on how to best manage their money during this challenging time.
"It all starts with that individual meeting where we do a financial health assessment, and we look at their cash flow, income, expenses, and assets," Kool said. "And we look if there's any wiggle room in there that can help free up some funds for basic needs."
