DES MOINES, Iowa — This week, kids are learning what it takes to be successful with money and exploring different jobs.
At Junior Achievement of Central Iowa, kids interview to be doctors, construction workers MidAmerican workers and more.
Ty Fish, 11, was elected as mayor.
“So far, I’ve done the census and I’m getting candidates for citizen of the day," Fish said.
Henry Droan, 11, interviewed to be the CEO of the technology shop at Junior Achievement.
“I’ve learned about loans. I’ve learned about stocks," Droan explained. "I’ve learned about how to do checks and debit and credit. I’ve learned a lot about managing money.”
Ryan Osborn, the President of Junior Achievement of Central Iowa, said they learn about work readiness, financial literacy, and entrepreneurship.
“And really what the program is about is it helps them connect the dots between the lifestyle they may want someday, the type of job you may need to support that lifestyle, and then the type of education and training that will help support that," Osborn explained.
“It’s been crazy managing my employee’s money," Droan added. "It’s been fun, but it’s also been hard work.”
“I think, if I keep doing this, when I’m older I will get a good job and have a good future," Fish said.
