A 15-acre park project is coming to Clive

Half of the $10.5 million price tag will be covered by grants, according to city officials.

CLIVE, Iowa — The City of Clive will be taking on an approximately $10.5 million project to turn part of its greenbelt into an "all-day experience."

“For a long time, it’s just been the Clive Aquatic Center and this rental building here, but we’ve seen more and more as the city’s grown. People wanting a place to celebrate and build community and this is really a spot where people can do that," Clive Leisure Services Director Richard Brown said.

The Greenbelt Landing Project will include multiple new features: a playground, public art, festival grounds and a stage, a renovated community building, easier-to-navigate parking, stormwater improvements and a wetland.

“This will be a newly constructed wetland so we’re going to take all the stormwater from the adjacent road as well as this site. We’re going to put it into this wetland to treat it so that the water before it goes into Walnut Creek is better than when it landed on the ground," Brown said.

The wetland will be walkable and educational. The Greenbelt Landing Project will cover a 15-acre space starting at 114th Street and going east.

“We’re hoping that these improvements will draw more people out here, more activities, more events, so that we can really celebrate and build that community that we want here in the city," Brown said.

Half of that $10.5 million price tag will be covered by grants, according to city officials. The Greenbelt Music Festival will be moved up the hill during construction time, Brown added.

This is just one of the multiple park projects the city is working on, two of which are remodels of existing parks and three being brand new facilities.

The new locations will be the far southeast corner of Clive off University Boulevard, the far northwest corner of Westgate Parkway and the Little Walnut Creek extension of the Greenbelt in northwest Clive.
