URBANDALE, Iowa — The City of Urbandale is looking for a new flag and asking its residents to help make the decision.
The Flag Design Committee on Friday released five potential designs to review and rate.
"These five flags represent the culmination of months of collaboration and creativity from students, residents, historians, and design experts," the city said in a press release. "Each design embodies the rich history, values, and aspirations of the Urbandale community."
The flag design contest was announced in October 2023, with submissions open through late January. The Flag Design Committee received more than 430 potential designs, which were then narrowed down to five.
In the survey, Urbandale residents can see each of the top flag designs and their meanings. From there, residents will be asked to assign each flag a letter grade based on their personal preference.
"Our flag is a symbol of our identity and unity as a city,” said Mayor Bob Andeweg in a statement. “I encourage all residents to participate in this important process and help us choose a flag that reflects who we are."
Urbandale residents can participate in the survey here. The survey will close on Monday, April 22.
The new flag will be unveiled at the mayor's State of the City address on June 27.
