Principal Charity Classic adding new biking initiative in 2024

The tournament director of the PCC hopes the new initiative will allow for positive change

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Principal Charity Classic has revealed a new biking initiative that will debut at this year's tournament. 

The "Pedal to the PCC" event on Sunday, June 2 is a free event but will require advanced registration.

The ride will begin at at 7th Street between Crocker and Center Street (noted as general spectator parking), make a stop at Big Grove Brewery and go through downtown Des Moines before ending at Wakonda Club.

Participants will receive a free admission ticket to the Principal Charity Classic that day, a map of the recommended route, a free bike valet, a free drink coupon to be used on-course and a commemorative water bottle. They will also be entered to win a free bike courtesy of Bike World

"We know that to foster a more secure world, we must be mindful of our impact on it... Pedal to the PCC is one of the many ways the tournament works to drive positive change while encouraging spectators to be environmentally responsible," Alex McCarty, PCC Tournament Director, said in a press release.

Stephen Ames won the Principal Charity Classic in 2023 and Jerry Kelly won the event in 2022. The tournament describes itself as an "event dedicated to investing in the future of Iowa kids." The PCC raised more than $8  million last year, bringing the tournament's overall charitable efforts past $50 million.

Blank Children's Hospital, MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center, United Way of Central Iowa, and Variety - the Children's Charity of Iowa all receive some of the funds raised.
