DMPD and DMFD both reported to investigate the report of a 'large juvenile dispute.'

DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines Police Department and Des Moines Fire Department reported to the scene of a 'large juvenile dispute' early Thursday morning after which DMPD reported an arrest.

At 4:39 a.m. DMPD and DMFD reported to the call at 2212 Merle Hay Road where they found several juveniles in a dispute, and upon further investigation located a stabbing victim at the 2100 block of 60th Street. However, evidence indicates the stabbing incident took place near the apartments at 2212 Merle Hay Road.

The 17-year-old victim  was taken to the local hospital with minor injuries and is expected to make a full recovery.

A suspect was taken into custody during the investigation, and after initially supplying officers with a fake name and age, officers were able to identify 18-year-old Des Moines resident Demar Kantrell Jones.

Jones has been charged with both Assault Causing Serious Injury which is a Class D Felony and Harassment Of A Public Official which is a Simple Misdemeanor.

While the initial call took place, 911 calls from the neighborhood were received that reported gunfire, but no evidence of such has been located during the investigation.
