Centerville man arrested for child endangerment death investigation, Iowa DCI says

A Centerville man is in custody for his involvement in a 2-year-old's death, according to a press release from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.

CENTERVILLE, Iowa — A Centerville man is in custody for his involvement in a 2-year-old's death, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation said in a Saturday press release

DCI said 48-year-old Roger Gillespie was allegedly the caretaker for 2-year-old Journey Marberry on Friday, Jan. 19, when she was reported as injured at a home on Drake Avenue in Centerville. It's not yet confirmed who reported her injury to law enforcement.

First responders transported her to a nearby hospital in Centerville and then later to the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. Marberry passed away on Saturday, Jan. 27, eight days after her injury.

Gillespie faces one count of Child Endangerment Causing Death, which is a class B felony in the state of Iowa. He is currently being held in the Appanoose County Jail.

It's unclear if Gillespie and Marberry were related, or what injuries she sustained on Jan. 19.
