Wednesday afternoon shooting in Ames leads to arrest of Chicago man, 1 hospitalized

A woman was shot in the upper body and transported to MercyOne in Des Moines.

AMES, Iowa — The Ames Police Department received reports of a shooting in a parking lot Wednesday afternoon, according to a release.

According to authorities, a female victim was shot at the 4700 block of Mortenson Road before being transported to MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines. Her condition is unknown at this time. 

The suspect was arrested less than a half hour later down the street, and was identified as 33-year-old Lyndon N. Dembry of Chicago, Illinois. 

Dembry has been charged with the following:

  • Attempted Murder (Class B felony)
  • Dominion and Control of a Firearm by a Felon (Class D felony)
  • Domestic Assault while Displaying a Dangerous Weapon (Aggravated misdemeanor)
