Des Moines man in custody after Wednesday morning police chase, Clive police say

The suspect allegedly led police through Clive, Urbandale and into downtown Des Moines.

DES MOINES, Iowa — A man is in custody after allegedly leading officers in a car chase through multiple cities in the Des Moines metro, Clive police said in a press release.

40-year-old Brian Zimmerman of Des Moines is charged with the following:

  • OWI
  • Eluding
  • Interference with Official Acts

Police said they were initially dispatched to check on a "suspicious male" in the parking lot of a business on NW 114th Street. When they arrived, officers found Zimmerman sitting in a parked car.

When police approached Zimmerman, they believed he was under the influence.

Zimmerman refused to answer questions or follow commands and eventually began driving north on NW 114th Street, police said.

Officers followed Zimmerman into Urbandale and then into Des Moines. Other law enforcement agencies, including Des Moines police, were called in to help with the pursuit.

Clive police eventually brought the car to a stop at 7th Street and Watson Powell Jr. Way in Des Moines.

Zimmerman was taken into custody and transported to Polk County Jail.

No injuries were reported during the pursuit.
