Over $40M worth of cocaine seized during traffic stop near Geneseo, ISP says

Two suspects, both from Ontario, Canada, were arrested during a traffic stop on Friday, according to an ISP press release.

GENESEO, Ill. — Two people from Canada were charged with drug trafficking after the Illinois State Police seized more than 1,000 pounds of cocaine over the weekend, a press release said. 

Around 2:10 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 29, an ISP trooper conducted a traffic stop along I-80 in Henry County near Geneseo. According to the release, the officer noted numerous indicators of criminal activity and a search unveiled 1,146 pounds of cocaine. The approximate street value for the drugs comes out to more than $40 million. 

Vanshpreet Singh, 27, and Manpreet Singh, 36, both from Ontario, Canada, were arrested and charged with possession of cocaine, possession with intent to deliver cocaine and cocaine trafficking — all class X felonies. 

The suspects were taken into custody and transported to the Henry County Jail. ISP said it notified Homeland Security Investigations, who is providing assistance. No other information was made available.
