22-year-old suspect arrested following Creston shooting

Greater Regional Health and Creston schools were placed on lockdown as police responded to the incident. They have since reopened.

CRESTON, Iowa — Daniel McDowell, 22, of Lorimor was arrested around 2:30 p.m. following a shooting in Creston that injured one person Thursday morning, the Iowa Department of Safety announced.

At 7:37 a.m. Creston Police Department officers were dispatched to the 800 block of North Lincoln Street due to report of gunshots.

McDowell faces a count of attempted murder along with a probation violation. He is being held in then Union County Jail.

The male victim drove himself to the emergency room following the shooting with multiple gunshot wounds, according to police. He was later airlifted to a Des Moines area hospital for additional treatment and is expected to recover.

Greater Regional Health and Creston schools were placed on lockdown as police responded to the incident. Both lockdowns were lifted around 10 a.m.
