DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines police are asking the public for information regarding an abandoned and emaciated dog located earlier this week.
The male bulldog was delivered to Des Moines Animal Services on Tuesday around 4:30 p.m. after it was found abandoned alongside the SE 14th Street railroad viaduct.
The bulldog's body was inside a plastic trash bag that was taped shut, with his head poking out of the bag. The person who found the dog said he saw the dog moving in the bag as he drove by.
Veterinary staff said the dog weighed just over 23 lbs. Photos provided by Des Moines police show the dog's ribs are visible through his skin.
Police noted in a press release the dog has cropped ears, which they believe suggests "possible prior veterinary care."
Anyone who recognizes the dog is asked to contact Des Moines police at 515-248-6052 or submit an anonymous tip online via the DMPD Mobile App or Crimestoppers of Central Iowa.
