Des Moines man tried to light himself, girlfriend on fire: Polk County court documents

Police believe 36-year-old Pah Lo Baw spread gasoline around his house because his girlfriend of two years "did not want to eat with him".

DES MOINES, Iowa — A Des Moines man is behind bars after attempting to light himself and his longtime partner on fire after an argument on Sunday, Polk County court documents reveal. 

Police believe 36-year-old Pah Lo Baw spread gasoline around his house because his girlfriend of two years "did not want to eat with him". The woman told police Baw intended to set them both on fire, as there were no children in the home at that time.

After Baw started a fire inside, the woman attempted to put out the blaze. She sustained some injuries, including singed hair and eyelashes, but was able to escape the house.

He is charged with: 

  • First-degree arson 
  • Attempted murder
  • Domestic abuse assault with intent to Inflict Serious Injury

The victim has since requested a no-contact order against Baw.
