Des Moines police: Man shot overnight 'expected to survive'

The shooting happened just before 3:30 a.m. on Thursday near Birdland Park, according to Des Moines police.

DES MOINES, Iowa — A man who was shot overnight is expected to survive his injuries, the Des Moines Police Department shared on X, formerly known as Twitter. 

The shooting, which happened on Cornell Street near Birdland Park, occurred just before 3:30 a.m. on Thursday. The victim was transported to a local hospital. 

Police believe there is no ongoing threat to the public at this time, though there might be an increased officer presence as investigation continues.

The injured man's identity has not yet been released. At this time, police have not clarified if anyone has been taken into custody regarding the shooting.
