DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines police are investigating a "home-invasion style burglary" they say occurred early Wednesday morning.
A child called 911 to report a burglary at a house on East Granger Avenue around 4:35 a.m. The child said the suspect was a man armed with a handgun, DMPD said in a news release.
Patrol officers responded to the house within minutes of the call. However, the suspect had already fled the scene by the time they arrived. Police proceeded to search the area, but the suspect was not located.
Early investigation indicates the suspect broke into the home and used duct tape to restrain "multiple adult occupants". Police say the suspect took property before fleeing the scene. It is unclear how many people were at the home at the time of the burglary.
The suspect is an adult man and approximately 6'2" tall. During the burglary, he was wearing a black ski mask and clothing and speaking Spanish.
Police are asking residents in the area to check their home surveillance systems for any images that could help police identify or locate the suspect.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Des Moines Police Department detectives at 515-237-1552 or submit tips online through Crime Stoppers of Central Iowa.
