Des Moines police: 18-year-old hospitalized after being shot in the back

An 18-year-old male has been transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound following "targeted shooting," the Des Moines Police Department said.

DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines police responded to a "targeted" shooting Wednesday evening in the 1900 block of College Avenue, where an 18-year-old was shot in the back.

The victim, who has since been transported to the hospital, is in serious but stable condition according to police.

DMPD said they are still looking for three suspects.

Police added that they secured the scene and do not see any indication of ongoing danger to the neighborhood, but to expect an increased law enforcement presence as invesigation continues.

The department announced around 5 p.m. that 19th Street would be temporarily closed at Clark Street. Shortly before 6 p.m. it was reopened.
