Des Moines police ask public for help locating person connected to hit-and-run crash

Police believe 32-year-old Renato Virves is the owner of the minivan that was involved in the accident.

DES MOINES, Iowa — The Des Moines Police Department is asking the public for help locating a person they believe is connected to a recent hit-and-run crash that injured three pedestrians. 

Police initially responded to a report of pedestrians hit by a car on SW 9th Street and Army Post Road on the evening of Wednesday, Oct. 9.

Two people, a 42-year-old man and a 45-year-old man, were taken to local hospitals. The 42-year-old man remains hospitalized in critical condition as of Monday morning. 

A third person, a 25-year-old man, also suffered a minor injury in the crash. 

Preliminary investigations indicate the three people were walking across Army Post Road when a minivan hit them and left the scene. 

Police have identified 32-year-old Renato Virves as the owner of the minivan, which was found abandoned on Chaffee Road.

Officials have so far been unable to locate Virves. He was last known to reside in south Des Moines.
