DES MOINES, Iowa — A Des Moines man faces up to 30 years in prison for injuring three responding police officers.
According to court documents, Pierce Cruz refused to leave his ex-girlfriend's house two separate times on Sunday, June 18, despite having a no-contact order in place.
When police responded a second time to the residence, Cruz was at the house.
Only 10 minutes later, officers radioed that a physical altercation between themselves and Cruz had started. Police said one officer was bitten, one was stabbed in the thigh and another was kicked in the face.
All of the officers received treatment for serious but nonlife-threatening injuries at area hospitals.
Cruz was charged with:
- Violation Of A No Contact Order
- Willful Injury Causing Bodily Injury – 2 Counts
- Assault On A Police Officer With Intent To Commit Serious Injury
He pleaded guilty and will face at least five years behind bars. Cruz also owes $6,150 in fines.
