DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines police say a 16-year-old has been charged with murder in a Tuesday morning stabbing.
Officers responded to reports of a stabbing at the Oakridge Neighborhood Apartments around 10:15 a.m. Tuesday.
When they arrived, first responders found 19-year-old Abdelmagid Elzubeir with a stab wound to the neck. First responders initiated lifesaving efforts at the scene. Elzubeir was taken to a local hospital where he later died.
A 16-year-old male has been charged with Murder in the First Degree in the case.
In a post on X, police said they believe there is no ongoing danger to the public.
This is Des Moines' sixth homicide of 2024.
