2 suspects detained after Drake Park shots fired incident

The second suspect was found in a wooded area by a K-9 unit.

DES MOINES, Iowa — Two suspects have been detained following a shots fired incident near Drake Park Friday afternoon, Des Moines police said on X. 

Sgt. Paul Parizek of Des Moines police told Local 5 shots were fired in the 2300 block of the Drake Park area. He said officers found a suspect's vehicle nearby. Police were able to detain one suspect, while another suspect ran away.

Following a potential suspect sighting, officers secured the wooded area along Keo Way.

Police deployed a K-9 unit and the second suspect was quickly found and detained near the Keo Way exit off of I-235 westbound, according to a Local 5 photojournalist at the scene.

Authorities said that shell casings were recovered at the scene and a gun was found in the vehicle.

No injuries or damages were reported and no charges have been filed at this time.

Police said people should expect increased police presence in the area.
