DES MOINES, Iowa — A suspect has been arrested on charges of kidnapping and domestic abuse.
Around 9 a.m. Monday, Des Moines police officers were called to a residence near SE 10th Street and Scott Avenue by an adult female victim who said she was assaulted and held against her will Friday night.
The victim said she was able to call for help because 44-year-old Miguel Mercado Quintero, her boyfriend and alleged attacker, had left for work. She said that he had hit and kicked her multiple times and had bound her with electrical tape and rope.
She also told law enforcement that Quintero had threatened to kill her multiple times, going so far as to even shoot the floor near a bed she was in along with making her write "goodbye" letters to her children.
DMPD said they were able to locate multiple items of evidence in the residence including a handgun, adding that the victim is currently recovering at this time as she had swollen black eyes and bruising covering multiple other parts of her body.
Quintero was located by police officers in Urbandale, arrested and charged with:
- Kidnapping in the First Degree
- Domestic Abuse — Assault With Weapon
- Felon In Possession Of A Firearm
Quintero was booked into Polk County Jail on Monday afternoon.
