DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines Police Department announced three arrests connected to the city's 15th homicide of the year early Friday.
Police said on Nov. 21 65-year-old Bruce Murray was found dead in his apartment on 513 Forest Ave with his hands tied behind his back, an electrical cord around his throat and injury to his face.
In the ensuing investigation, authorities said they were able to use video evidence to determine three people had entered Murray's apartment the day he died. Shortly after entering, they were seen leaving the building carrying property from it.
Police said available evidence indicates that one or more of the arrested suspects assaulted the victim while the group stole methamphetamine and other property from the apartment.
Nov. 23, an investigation led police to suspect 19-year-old Alexzander Craig Jewett who was located at a homeless camp near 12th Street and Mulberry Street. Shortly after finding property believed to be Murray's, police arrested Jewett.
Jewett is charged with the following:
- Robbery in the First Degree
- Burglary in the First Degree
Police said the second suspect, 25-year-old Charles Edwards Adams, was found by detectives Nov. 26 near SW 16th Street and W. MLK, Jr. Parkway.
As authorities tried to detain Adams, they claim he fought back and attempted to fire a gun at officers before having having it pried from his hand.
After continued investigation, Adams was arrested and charged. He was treated for medical issues at a local hospital before his release to jail Nov. 29.
Adams is charged with the following:
- Attempted Murder of a Peace Officer
- Robbery in the First Degree
- Burglary in the First Degree
- Felon in Possession of a Firearm
- Interference with Official Acts With a Firearm
- Possession of a Controlled Substance - Methamphetamine
- Assault on a Person in Certain Occupations
- Unrelated active warrants at the time of his arrest
DMPD's third suspect, 49-year-old Deprece Lamont Tribble, was found at another homeless camp, this one near the 1700 block of W. MLK, Jr. Parkway.
After further investigation, he was quickly arrested.
Tribble is charged with the following:
- Robbery in the First Degree
- Burglary in the First Degree
