DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines Police announced that it has made an arrest following a Friday evening shots fired incident at the 500 block of Forest Avenue that had no injuries reported.

At approximately 5:45 p.m. Friday evening, DMPD officers responded to Forest Avenue after an initial report of a drive-by shooting.

Following an investigation on scene, authorities say the incident was instead a dispute in which 50-year-old Lashawnda Broadus allegedly fired a handgun while standing outside a vehicle before fleeing the scene in said vehicle.

Thanks to a vehicle description given during the 911 call, responding officers were able to stop the vehicle a mile from the scene and Broadus was taken into custody without issue.

A handgun was also recovered at the scene of her arrest, DMPD said.

The two victims, an adult male and adult female, were not injured.

DMPD said that there is no indication of ongoing danger in the neighborhood.
