DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines police are investigating an apparent shooting at the 2800 block of East University near Smokin' Joe's and Cigarette Energy Discount after a victim caller reported being shot shortly before 5:30 p.m. Wednesday followed by the suspect fleeing the scene.
According to a Local 5 photojournalist on scene, the incident reportedly happened in the alley between Smokin' Joes and Cigarette Energy Discount.
DMPD says the area is secure and that there is no ongoing danger to the neighborhood, but to expect an increased police presence in the area during the investigation.
