DES MOINES, Iowa — Editor's Note: The above video is from Tuesday, April 9
One person has been arrested in connection to a Tuesday morning shooting in Des Moines, police said in a press release.
A 16-year-old boy faces the following charges in Adult Court:
- Attempted Murder
- Willful Injury
- Person Ineligible to Carry Dangerous Weapons
The charges come just a day after police responded to reports of a shooting at a home on Easton Boulevard just before 8:40 a.m. Tuesday.
As they were responding to the scene, police received a description of the alleged shooter. When they arrived at the scene, police located the suspect and took him into custody.
One person, a 31-year-old man, was injured in the shooting. He remains hospitalized in "serious condition", but is expected to survive, police say.
Court documents indicate the shooting occurred following an argument between a man and a woman, identified as the victim's brother and the suspect's sister.
The argument ended with the victim's brother deciding to move out of the home. The victim's brother left the residence and returned later with the victim, intending to "retrieve his property", according to a criminal complaint.
When the victim approached the front of the home, the 16-year-old suspect allegedly pulled out his gun and shot him in the chest.
"Evidence at the scene and the statements of the parties involved match one another with limited evidence that the victim posed a threat to the defendant at the time of the shooting," court documents read.
Police located the firearm and determined it to be a ghost gun made with a 3D printer.
