Court documents: Guthrie Center day care provider charged for child's skull fracture

Court documents claim that in-home day care provider Mackenzie Herron injured a child under her care on Monday, Nov. 13.

GUTHRIE CENTER, Iowa — A Guthrie Center day care provider has been charged with child endangerment after allegedly fracturing a child's skull earlier this month.

Court documents claim Mackenzie Herron admitted to injuring a 4-month-old child under her care on Monday, Nov. 13.

The investigation began on Nov. 15 after the Department of Human Services and hospital personnel determined the injuries likely happened during day care. When questioned by Guthrie County officials, Herron originally denied any knowledge about the injuries.

The child had a skull fracture, upper arm bruising and bruising near the eye. The child also had an "old" injury of three fractured ribs.

Herron had been taking care of the child for around six to eight weeks, and described the child as "fussy" to officials.
