HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Iowa — A Humboldt Middle School teacher is charged with sexual abuse and sexual exploitation after allegedly engaging in a "sexual relationship" with a high school student, the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office said in a press release.
31-year-old Samantha Meyer-Davis of Rutland turned herself in to local law enforcement after a warrant was issued for her arrest on Monday.
The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office first learned of a possible relationship between Meyer-Davis and a Humboldt High School student in September 2023. The student was under the age of 16 at the time of the initial report.
The sheriff's office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation conducted multiple interviews and executed search warrants throughout the investigation.
During this time, investigators located videos of sex acts between the teacher and student, as well as messages "showing evidence of a sexual and intimate relationship", according to a criminal complaint. The relationship allegedly began around June of 2022, when the student was just 14 years old.
Meyer-Davis is charged with sexual abuse in the third degree and sexual exploitation by a school employee. She was released from the Humboldt County Law Enforcement Center after posting $15,000 in bond.
She will have her first court date on Thursday, Feb. 29. In addition, a court issued a no-contact order between Meyer-Davis and the student.
