PALO ALTO COUNTY, Iowa — Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird announced Tuesday her office will prosecute a non-U.S. citizen over alleged voter fraud.

35-year-old Irving Omar Ahumada Geronimo was arrested and charged with two counts of Election Misconduct in the First Degree.

The AG's office said Ahumada Geronimo illegally registered to vote and voted on Nov. 2, 2021 in a Graettinger City Council and school board election.

"The defendant did fraudulently sign a voter registration form under oath, attesting that among other things, he was a citizen of the United States while knowing that to be false and untrue," criminal complaints read.

"The defendant then fraudulently voted in that election knowing himself not to be qualified to do so," court documents continue.

Ahumada Geronimo is legally residing in the United States, Bird's office said.
