JOHNSTON, Iowa — A man is in custody after allegedly firing a gun just four blocks away from Johnston High School Tuesday afternoon, Johnston police said in a press release.
19-year-old Treyvon Foy of Johnston faces the following charges:
- Reckless Use of a Firearm – Serious Misdemeanor
- Control of a Firearm by a Felon – Class D Felony
Johnston officers responded to the area around 10125 Powell Ave. at approximately 12:30 p.m. after multiple people in nearby townhomes witnessed Foy shooting a gun in a grass field, according to court documents.
Witnesses told police Foy entered a townhome on Bluebell Court. Police set up a perimeter around the home and later arrested Foy when he left the building.
The incident caused Johnston High School to initiate a lockout, meaning all external doors were locked and no one could enter or exit the building.
Foy is being held without bail at the Polk County Jail.
"We appreciate our community members for their vigilance and for sharing information," a spokesperson for the city said Tuesday. "If you see something, please say something."
The incident is still under investigation and there is no ongoing danger to the public.
