Jury convicts Marshalltown man of March 2023 murder

20-year-old Amarrion Demeir Isom was convicted of first-degree murder on Monday.

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa — A jury has found a Marshalltown man guilty of murder in connection to a March 2023 shooting death.

20-year-old Amarrion Demeir Isom was convicted of first-degree murder on Monday in the death of 27-year-old Isaiah Montell Forest.

In a statement, Marshalltown Police Chief Michael Tupper said in part, “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Isaiah Forest. This was a senseless crime. We are pleased with the jury verdict and we thank the jurors for their time and work."

The conviction comes nearly a year after Forest's death. Police initially responded to a call of someone injured and not breathing at a home in Marshalltown on March 17, 2023.

When they arrived at the scene, they found Forest's body. An autopsy revealed Forest died of a gunshot wound.

After conducting interviews and collecting evidence, investigators determined Isom and Forest had an "ongoing disagreement" over a debt, according to a criminal complaint.

In addition, a witness placed Isom at the scene of the crime on March 17, while another witness said Isom admitted to shooting Forest.

Cell phone data and records also showed Isom was near the crime scene right before Forest's death, a criminal complaint indicates.
