Marshalltown Police arrest two people in connection to Saturday death

Marshalltown authorities and Iowa DCI began a death investigation after an unresponsive man with traumatic injuries was found in a roadway early Saturday.

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa — Two people have been arrested in connection with a Marshalltown death investigation after a man with traumatic injuries was found in a roadway early Saturday.

Police responded to a medical emergency at 5:45 a.m. Saturday at North 12th Avenue and Bromley Street in Marshalltown.

The man was found unresponsive with visible traumatic injuries in the roadway. He was transported to the Marshalltown Hospital and later moved to a Des Moines medical facility, where he died. 

Marshalltown PD has identified Ezra Oliver Seymour, 23, of Tama as the victim. 

The cause of death is still unknown at this time.

25-year-old Trequan Merez Cosgrove, of Marshalltown, and 26-year-old Jaimee Yajaira Alcaraz-Gutierrez, also of Marshalltown, were arrested early Sunday morning following an investigation by the Marshalltown police and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.

Cosgrove has been charged with first-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Alcaraz-Gutierrez has been charged with accessory after the fact. Both are being held in the Marshall County Jail.
