1 person injured, hospitalized after stabbing at Clive hotel

Police say an argument between two men broke out around 3:30 a.m. Friday.

CLIVE, Iowa — One man is in the hospital after an early-morning stabbing incident at a hotel in Clive.

Responding officers say an argument between two men broke out near the Days Inn on Northwest 114th Street around 3:30 a.m. Friday. The suspect then stabbed the victim before fleeing on foot, according to police.

The male victim suffered serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital for surgery. He is expected to recover.

Police located the suspect a short distance away and detained him without incident. In addition, a large knife was recovered at the scene.

The suspect has been identified as 62-year-old Wa'il Muhannad of Des Moines.

Based on witness interviews and evidence at the scene, police believe the two men knew each other prior to the incident and were engaged in a physical altercation when Muhannad stabbed the victim.
