Ottumwa man charged with kidnapping, assaulting his girlfriend, police say

The victim told police her boyfriend picked her up from school on Wednesday and took her to his apartment, where he assaulted her and threatened her with a gun.

OTTUMWA, Iowa — An 18-year-old is facing multiple charges after allegedly kidnapping and assaulting his underage girlfriend, Ottumwa police said in a press release. 

The Ottumwa Police Department was contacted by a female juvenile victim at around 9 a.m. Thursday. 

The victim told police her boyfriend picked her up from school on Wednesday and took her to his home. There, the suspect allegedly assaulted the victim, threatened her with a gun and kept the victim from contacting anyone. 

The suspect allowed the victim to go to school Thursday morning, which is when she contacted police. 

Ottumwa police arrested 18-year-old Isaac Angel Martinez at around 11:30 a.m. Thursday and charged him with Domestic Abuse Assault. 

Police added that after executing a search warrant on the suspect's apartment and car, Martinez was also charged with Kidnapping in the First Degree and Assault While Participating in a Felony. 

He is currently being held without bond at the Wapello County Jail
